A Quiet Adventure in Arashiyama Bamboo Grove

January 21, 2024

We departed Amanohashidate on the morning of January 21, taking a very cute local train to Kyoto. It was also Yaxi’s birthday, so being together on such a sweet train felt very festive.

In Kyoto, Nogi rented a car and we drove to the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove. I had wanted to come here for years, so this made me very happy that we could do it. I had heard that this magical place is always packed with people and we were all surprised that when we arrived, that there weren’t many people there. And it was even on a Sunday.

The bamboo grove is a magnificent Timeless True World and it was deeply healing to stroll through it. I felt so at home amidst the bamboo.

During our eleven days in Japan, we hadn’t had time to interact much with Japan itself. It felt like we were more in the Land of the White Dragon than the country of Japan. We thought that we would finally have two free days in Kyoto, but that was unexpectedly changed when one of our flights to Peru was rescheduled at the last minute. Now we had only one night in Kyoto and had to depart Japan a day early. This was a clear sign that we weren’t here as tourists, but as emissaries of the White Dragon.

This didn’t happen only to us. We also heard that when I-Chu was leaving Japan, she had commented that she never felt that she had been in Japan either.

And so it was. We came. We awakened the WHITE DRAGON. And we departed. But even though we didn’t see much of this beautiful country, we fell in love with so many of you.

The day after our final White Dragon Ceremony was Yaxi’s Birthday! She was very happy with her surprise birthday present. Photo by Benedikt.

We took the very sweet local train to Kyoto. This was the prettiest train that I had ever been on. I told Yaxi it was her birthday train! Photo by Solara.

The Arashiyama Bamboo Grove was the perfect place to come after our Amanohashidate White Dragon Ceremony! Photo by Emanaku.

The bamboo was exquisitely beautiful. At one point we stopped and raised our arms into the air. That’s when the wind began and all the bamboos began to sway. Then we put down our arms and the wind stopped! Photo by Emanaku.

It was an immersion into a Timeless True World. Photo by Emanaku.

Although the photos of the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove are usually packed with people, much of the time, we had it practically to ourselves. We could feel the White Dragon here with us. Photo by Solara.

It felt deeply healing to be here. Photo by Emanaku.

In the middle of the bamboo grove was a truck selling baked sweet potatoes. This was the only commercial endeavor in the entire bamboo grove. We knew that it must be very special to have permission to be here. Photo by Nogi.

We all stopped and bought a baked sweet potato from this very special man who had traveled the world and spoke several languages.

Not only were they the most delicious baked sweet potatoes that we had ever eaten, but they felt that they were magical sweet potatoes ~ full of blessings and healing.

A little while later I found my sacred rock! As soon as I saw it, I was in love and instantly knew that I had to sit on it.

It was totally one of those “IT’S YOU!” moments.

Once I sat on it, something clicked into position and I felt totally at home. I found it difficult to get up and leave my sacred rock until I realized that we had merged and would always be together.

We left the bamboo grove and discovering that we were hungry again, searched for somewhere to eat.

Emanaku found an Italian pizzeria that was just about to close, but kindly offered to stay open for us. The five of us somehow managed to cram ourselves into the small space outside.

(Notice the train that runs right through the middle of this town.)

It was delicious pizza and the people working there were super nice!

It was a very magical day ~ a perfect day of recovery and integration from a powerful, true ceremony and a perfect birthday for Yaxi!

MORE TO COME: Return to Peru!
